Nothing Ruins a Morning Walk Like...

...dead things. Or more specifically, dead frogs and worms.

It rained last night, so I took the baby in the jogging stroller this morning for my 50-min. walk around the neighborhood, which is one I usually enjoy, and I found myself grossed out at every turn. Dead, squished frogs EVERYWHERE. And worms. Lots of worms. Ew. I was surprised at the number of frogs. It looks like we just came through one of the Ten Plagues Of Egypt in my subdivision. I mean, where did they all come from???

My kids are funny, when they go out to walk to the bus stop, they run around scooping up worms on the driveway and "saving them" by dumping them back in the grass. I don't mind, as long as they come back in for hand sanitizer before they leave.

Yesterday was interesting. I received another story idea via Lightning Bolt, and spent two hours scribbling plot notes and researching. This story will be a BEAR to research, because the subject material, though specific, is very vast. I ordered some research books and one research DVD, so I can really dive into it. Today I'm making my BOX.
For every novel, I buy a set of hanging file folders and tabs, and I file EVERY bit of research I find. This is my box for the last novel:

It's very convenient for me. I have everything I need, in one place. When I'm through writing the novel, the box goes into storage. Historical fiction (which is what I like to write the most) is very research-intensive most of the time, so I need lots of files. :-) It works for me!

This novel will be tricky--I am going to spend most of the weekend plotting it out and researching what I need. It is the sequel to the book I have on submission. The fun part is, I get to revisit the world of my characters again. I get to see them grow and change and do new things. I love that about writing.

Okay, time to get some stuff done! First thing--go rinse all the worm parts ground into my shoes! Ugh! (I'd post a picture, but...well...I won't even say why.)

Have a great weekend, all!

I am impressed by how organised you are with your files and research. Awesome!

I just got back from a walk with Cryptic and he was telling me all about all the characters in a few stories he is working on. He is starting a weekly fiction writing class today, so we shall see how that goes.

Wow, I must be a bad mother. I never use hand sanitizer (have never bought any) and only have my kids wash their hands before they eat and not even always then! LOL I figure it builds up immunity. Must work; they seldom fall ill.

Have a great weekend!

Good for you!

No writing weekend for me -- a show tonight, two shows tomorrow, conducting an interview between shows, two shows on Sunday.

That's a great way to stay organized.

Going back to write the sequel sounds exciting.

Getting the kids off to school is a daily escapade for sure. We have three. It's an adventure.

That's impressive! I've wondered for a long time how you manage to write novels having four kids to take care of. I have two daughters and can't find time to even start writing my thesis...
Love the box! Great idea!
