KIDS.

So, this morning, my eight year old (yes, he's EIGHT so this came as a surprise) suddenly sported a cut on his chin as we were packing up to get on the bus. It was bleeding quite profusely, and I asked him what had happened to his chin?

He shrugged.

I looked at him. "Are you serious? You don't know how you got a cut on your chin in the last five minutes?"

His reply: Another shrug of the shoulders. "I don't know, mom. You know me. I'm always getting cuts and bruises and I don't know where I get them!" (He said this practically verbatim from what I was lamenting the other day, as I observed his bruise-covered legs from rough playground playing).

It was a little fishy, so I thought back to where he'd been that morning. And then I realized. His brother is sick with a fever, so we told him to come down to our bathroom to brush his teeth. I ran to the bathroom, and there was the culprit--my razor I use on my legs. Apparently he'd picked it up, and wondered what it would be like to try and "shave" his chin.

He shaved it, alright. A nice chunk of skin. Hubby and I scolded him for even touching the razor (something I would expect from my TWO year old, not EIGHT year old!) and he was embarrassed. Of course he was. He did something stupid. Silly kids. Sometimes you think you're past a certain stage with them, and they go and surprise you. Don't even get me started on the incident with the basement blinds...

So, I wish I could say I had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. I WISH I could say it. But it was more like three days of hell, where we deep cleaned the house (windows and all) and did massive yardwork, including planting eleven (some of them HUGE) planters with new flowers, during which we were blitzkrieged by ravenous mosquitoes, despite generous applications of mosquito repellent. BOO.
We went to a nursery and got a good mix of flowers this year, tall purple as the centerpiece with light blue and yellow and hot pink mixed in. The house looks fabulous, and it's shining inside and out (we had Hubby's boss over for dinner last night) but I'm EXHAUSTED. I fell into bed Saturday, Sunday and last nights, completely DEAD.

This morning I have a lot to do, and I'm sitting here in my pjs. Ppphbbbttttt.

I hope everyone ELSE had a good weekend!

Will you post pictures of the new planters? They sound lovely. Sorry it was such an exhausting weekend.

Yeah, he's hitting the age-of-exploring-razors stage. I went through that with the godkids. "Sweetie, it's really less dangerous if you wait until there's actually growing on your face. It hurts less. And bleeding all over everything just freaks people out. So let's stay away from the razors for a few more years. You'll be happier and less scarred. No, I'm not going to tease you about it at the table."

Sounds like you spent your Memorial Day just like mine...working.

I must have the same boy. He's 10 and no longer allowed to touch anything that isn't his.

I hear ya on the mosquitoes. They were out in full force this weekend.

I am honestly not trying to make you feel bad, but we have almost NO bugs here in the NW. Where I grew up in Saskatchewan?? Another matter. We were truly eaten alive every summer! That is one thing I DO NOT MISS about living here:)

The razor thing...*sigh*...boys! You have three just like I do and they truly never cease to amaze!

I also would LOVE to see your planters:) I can imagine how exhausted you were/are, but what a great feeling to get so much done, eh?? Hopefully this week will be slower and you can veg a little.

Oh boy. I hope that day never comes but I know it will. LOL

I was so happy when the weekend was over, too!
